Kinetic typography evaluation

Kinetic typography evaluation

Normally stuff like kinetic typography and graphic related tasks just doesn’t seem to interest me. Once I discovered what kinetic typography was I instantly didn’t like it. I knew I would struggle to come up with my own piece-but that’s me and what I do, I worry.
After researching I learnt that kinetic typography is moving text. I discovered that kinetic typography has demonstrated the ability to add significant emotive content and appeal to expressive text. I also learnt that kinetic typography has been used in film and television advertising. So after doing a bit of research I thought to myself that I must have come across kinetic typography before, only it didn’t grab my attention.

I went on you tube to watch the Mc Donald’s little taster’s kinetic typography piece. It was a good piece and I had to analyse it. As I researched further I came across more typography videos, and I analysed them.

In build up of choosing my film audio track, I had only one film in mind, and that was the popular line from the film snakes on the plane. Snakes on the plane is one of my favourite films.

I wanted my snakes on the plane typography to be like this one in the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kImsanXU3w

So I started my kinetic typography piece by using software called adobe after effects. I’ve never used the software before so I did struggle but in the end I did get the hang of it.
I wanted my kinetic typography piece to be different, amazing and well structured. I’m disappointed with myself because it was none of those things I listed above. I opted to go for a walk in the park and create something basic-simply because I couldn’t do what I wanted to do as I thought the software was really difficult to use.

I struggled with the effects, movements and transitions, even if I asked for help and I was show I still couldn’t remember.

I spent over 4 weeks trying to create my piece. I’m glad that I’ve finally created something but I think massive amounts of improvements need to be made within my work. I need to stop going for the basic route as I know the basic route won’t get me far if I want to progress to a higher level.

I did enjoy the research. I enjoy research because I always learn something new. I would attempt to create a kinetic typography piece again. Hopefully it’ll be a better experience next time.

Pecha Kucha evaluation

Pecha Kucha 20x20 evaluation

I read the brief of this task and instantly sighed. I said to myself that I couldn’t do this task. The task wasn’t difficult but I thought it was pointless.
However, it had to be done and I went home to contemplate my ideas.
I came up with my top 20 favourite football players and I decided to stick with it.
I’m normally confident around people I know but within this class this year I have found it difficult to be myself and find that well needed confidence.
I gathered this task was a perfect opportunity to improve my confidence within the class.
As you would expect I was nervous about presenting my presentation but I managed to in the end and I felt great!
As expected members of the class did disagree with my top 20 but my opinion is there to be disagreed with. What the class mostly disagreed with was my number one choice, which was Didier Drogba who is my football idol.
I have no regrets about this task and I would happily do this again. I only wish that it could have been more than 20 slides.

McDonald's - Little Tasters Commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgVACI7BK-o&feature=related

I've seen this on my television numerous times. I was staring typography right in it's face. I had to laugh while watching this video though, becaue of the simile's used and the extravagant description of a burger! However, this is the best piece of typography i've seen. This must of taken hours to make.

Joker - Why So Serious? - The Dark Knight -Typography

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D91xdNwRfHI&feature=related

I'm very keen on this piece because of the hidden symbolism, the words create the jokers face, if you watch the clip you'll notice. This video it appeals to me. The audio is actually scarier than the film scene itself. The timing once again was great. My only bad fault was the word son after why so serious, i didn't hear the word son.

Dark Knight Kinetic Typography

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL2IIpNkSKs

This is a great piece. I've seen so many 'why so serious' pieces and it really got boring. It was good that the editor opted to use a different scene. The effects work, by effects i mean the smoke in the background, when the joker says he's only burning his half and half the sentenced is erased with smoke and finally the dynamite effect as the words burn away. Everything is timed to perfection and the font and colours match well. The colours were dark as expected for a film and scene like this.

Kinetic Typography - Hot Air Balloon Owl City

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhSu8D4xK4Y&feature=related

This is by far the worst piece i've come across. (So far!)

'I lit a match and let it catch, to light up the room' Okay, personally i would of used fire to go with that line as it would light the room up. The only negative point i could come out with is the white and grey writing isn't as clear.  I would of used black so it would stand out. I think the writing goes just a little bit quicker than the song-but maybe i'm wrong and from someone else's perspective they may see different. The air baloon image works perfect as it goes with the song lyrics. The background colours were brilliant, the creator could of opted for a black background-but why would an air baloon fly in the darkness. Fantastic work by the creator!

Willy wonka kinetic typography

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa6ww8B347c&feature=related

This piece i feel is better than the zombieland piece. The pink text colour, i thought was attractive. The colour reminded me of willy wonka. The font, if i'm correct is the font off the film 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' itself. If i am correct then the font is a great addition to the typography piece. Once again the timing was on time, if the timing wasn't on time then the video would be a disaster. The animation of the bottles bubbles floating in the air was a clever idea. I liked the way when willy wonka said "Clear as crystal". The creator made the words flash.

Zombieland kinetic typography

Having watched this numerous times so i can develop my opinion, i thought it was hard to state whether this was a good piece of typography or not. I'm new to typography so i'm no expert. I did like this piece, it was clean piece. I thought the black and white background worked well. I thought the font was dull, but it worked with the script. The timing was great and accurate. I did like the transitions for the words and my favourtie part was word within a word. I thought that was smart.

Kinetic typography tutorial

http://www.crookedgremlins.com/09/01/2008/kinetic-typography-tutorial/

Here is a link on Kinetic typography, and how to create your own. I thought this was very useful as i'll be creating my own.

Kinetic typography

Kinetic typography, the technical name for moving text. Kinetic typography is an animation technique mixing motion and text to express ideas using video animation.

Kinetic typography refers to the art and technique of expression with animated text.

Kinetic typography focuses on understanding the effect time has on the expression of text.

Kinetic typography has demonstrated the ability to add significant emotive content and appeal to expressive text, allowing some of the qualities normally found in film and the spoken word to be added to static text. Kinetic type has been widely and successfully used in film as well as in television and computer based advertising.

Here is an example of kinetic typography

Evaluaion minimalist posters

EVALUATION MINIMALIST POSTERS

At times I find it extremely difficult to put my ideas onto paper. I have many creative ideas and the majority of the time I can’t express them and put them onto paper, simply because my art is of a abysmal quality.

Initially i wanted to base my minimalist poster on the film ‘shottas’. Shottas is a Caribbean film set in Jamaica, based on drugs and money. I managed to design a few poster ideas. Unfortunately I had to go for the more basic ideas as I couldn’t draw my creative ones. I went on to design minimalist posters for the films ice age, ratatouille and the lion king.

At the stage of finalising my designs I wasn’t quite sure which film I was going to base my minimalist poster on. Lion king is one of my favourite films, so after a few hours of thinking I decided to go for the lion king poster.

I chose the lion king minimalist poster because it was one of the more basic ideas I had came up with. Finding a target audience was a struggle as I could only use up to three colours, but since I’ve decided to create a lion king minimalist poster then my target audience is children as the film is. I only used one colour which was black, and the black was for the colour of my image, and title.

The key feature on my poster is the image, it’s a paw print idea I came up with and it relates to the lions.

I believe I can improve this idea massively especially on a computer, my art work lets my poster design down. The background of my minimalist poster was meant to be red, but I wasn't able to get my hands on red paper.

As of yet I don’t know what idea I would do if I were to design this again, but I know I would base my poster around one film and one film only. If I could change my poster I would, if I could make it look even more professional then I would certainly do that. My minimalist poster idea is really basic.

What i want to do is complete my poster, i feel it is unfinished. I want to make a design on the computer, that's the only way i feel it would completed.

I wasn’t keen on minimalist posters to be honest, I’m never keen on drawing but I learnt something while doing this task and my research. I never knew what minimalists posters were before, so no regrets!

Toy story

This is a good film and the image is noticeable. However, this image isn't something that i'd go for. I'd go for something that would relate to woody or buzz. I also don't like the font because it' mainly bright colours in the film.

Forest gump

The bench scene. This is a good film. This image reminds me instantly of when Forest was talking to people as they passed by on the bench.  It does appeal to me. It would be hard to create a poster for this kind of film. (you'll have to watch it to understand what i mean). The film doesn't have that key feature that you could pick out and put it on a poster.

Godfather

Here is another poster that doesn't need a title. The best part of this poster is the red rose. If that wasn't on the suit on this poster then it wouldn't be noticeable. This image is fantastic because it portrays the godfather so well. I like this poster, it's one of my favourites. it would be hard to emulate a poster of this standard.

Bee movie

This poster is just plain. I assume that the yellow and black are for the stripes of the bee. It's not the best poster because it's plain, but it shows that not all poters need an image. This poster does appeal to me. If i were to change anything then i would have to consider an image that relates to bees.

Snow white

The highlight of this film is when Snow White takes a bite of the apple that is poisonous, which ends up killing her. However in the film the apple was red. Basic posters like these don't need a title. I would change the apple to a red one, and the background to blue because it portrays snow white more.

Spiderman

This is a good basic poster. I'm guessing the blue background is for the detail of the spider as it wouldn't really look good in red. If you look closely you can spot the detailed pattern. The spider is not the man. The image of the spider is the one that had bitten Spiderman (black spider). I like this poster idea. It's perfect minimalism for the film Spiderman.

Rocky

This is a good minimalist poster. At the bottom it's Rocky celebrating victory with his arms in the air, then his body are stairs, with another man running up. This relates to the film when rocky is training. I don't quite understand the background colour. I like the poster image, but the colour puts me off.

Lord of the rings

I admire posters like these because they're basic, and actually relate to the film. Basically the ring in the middle relates to the film and story. Briefly, that ring has to be destroyed in the film.

Shaun of the dead

This is a good film. I never quite got the title though. The green symbolises horror and it is a horror film. The three characters in white are trying to defend themselves from the zombies in black. It's a good minimalist poster, i don't have any negative things to point out.

Iron man

The red resembles iron man itself. Also a brief image of Iron man. It's a good minimalist poster. I like it. The poster appeals to me. I would find it difficult to make something better than this poster.

Daredevil

I don't quite understand the yellow background. My opinion is that it would look better in a black background to show the darkness of the devil. The red is obviously for the Devil along with the horns. DD means daredevil. It's a good poster but the yellow is hideous.

Sex and the City

I didn' t quite get this poster. Now i see it as a cocktail. I've never watched sex and the city, i don't plan on watching it. So the cocktail image, do the characters in sex and the city just sit down and drink cocktails all day? I don't like this poster, it doesn't portray sex and the city. I understand that the creator has tried to make this poster feminine, but the image doesn't suit me. If i were to create another poster i think i would include images of make up or handbags.

The Simpsons

It took me quite a while to try and work this one out. The yellow back ground portrays the skin colour of the characters, and the points that look like triangles, but they are to symbolise Bart Simpsons head. (i think). It's a smart idea, pretty basic and makes you think about what the creators are trying to show here. This poster isn't the best but i don't have any negative points about it. I can only question myself now to whether i could create a better poster. Hmmmmmm

Jaws

This here is a minimalist poster for jaws. It's pretty simple, the blue is the sea and there is also a picture of a shark, but not showing the sharks whole body. Not showing the sharks whole body would is ideal, i don't think the body is really important. The title JAWS is also red. I think that the red symbolises blood. I don't really like this poster, it doesn't really grab my attention.
